The prize is as follows:

The winners will become doggy taste testers for our new ‘Pawfect’ dog-friendly ice cream. Dogs will receive a Lakes Ice Cream bundle with the new ice cream, alongside goodies for their owners.

Further success for Lakes Ice Cream at the Great Taste awards 2023!

Lakes and Hawkshead Ice Cream Flavours

The team at Lakes Ice Cream based in Kendal in the Lake District are delighted to have been awarded 5 Great Taste Awards for five flavours within their luxury range.  They have received 2 stars for their Blackcurrant & Cream and 1 star accolades for their Madagascan Vanilla, Crushed Strawberry, Rum & Raisin and Plum & Damson ice creams.  These 2023 awards add to their previous success in 2019 receiving a 2 star for their Double Jersey and 1 star for their Thunder & Lightning and Raspberry Pavlova and a 2 star for their Cherry & Mascarpone Gelato in 2020, 1 star for Biscoff and Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding and a 1 star for Kendal Mintcake in 2022, taking their total Great Taste badges of honour to 12,

14,195 products were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process. 4,088 products were awarded a 1 star, 1,568 were awarded a 2 start and just 248 were awarded a coveted 3 star.  This years judging took place over 89 days in Dorset and London, with a panel of more than 500 judges putting the products to the test.  Products were submitted from 109 different countries across the world.

Comments from the judges in respect of the 2 star Blackcurrant & Cream:

“We loved so much about this product.  The texture of the ice cream was beautiful, indulgent and the blackcurrants the ideal balance of sweet and savoury.  This feels like a truly artisan product!”

A deliciously decadent collaboration

Lakes and Hawkshead Ice Cream Flavours

Hawkshead Relish and Kendal’s English Lakes Ice Cream have joined forces to create two deliciously decadent ice cream flavours just in time for Summer.

The new products were launched at the Farm Shop and Deli Show, Birmingham, in April, the two new luxurious flavours are: Seville Orange Marmalade and Rhubarb & Ginger Crumble.

Both flavours are available to hospitality, catering and leisure customers in either four litre packs or Napoli catering packs and one litre retail packs will be available shortly in Booths stores throughout the country.

These two innovative multi-award-winning Lake District food producers had been meaning to collaborate for quite a while, however, the pandemic got in the way.

After an initial conversation between Jonathan Robb MD of Hawkshead Relish and James Stephens MD of English Lakes Ice Cream, at the Lakes Hospitality Show in 2022, the two businesses got the ball rolling and set about working their magic.

After numerous taste tests between the two teams, they decided to work with Rhubarb & Ginger Jam, a sweet and sticky jam made with locally sourced rhubarb and a touch of heat from fresh ginger and Seville Orange Marmalade, which is bursting with simple citrus flavours, made in the traditional way using only the finest Seville oranges.

They were then paired with simple natural ingredients by English Lakes Ice Cream’s development team, to create two luxurious dairy ice creams made from local fresh organic milk and cream, sourced from Red Tractor assured Morphet Farms, Swarthmoor, Ulverston.

English Lakes Ice Cream MD James Stephens commented: “We’re always looking to add to the range of flavours  we offer, and we’ve wanted to collaborate with Hawkshead Relish for a while. The opportunity presented itself and we then got our heads together to incorporate their products with ours to create several distinctive flavours, that would not only help promote what both companies are doing in their respective fields, but also the quality of the produce being created across the county.”

Maria Whitehead co-owner of Hawkshead Relish commented: “James and I have a similar approach to business, so it seemed natural for us to look at how we might work together. When we began shaping ideas it didn’t take us long to develop our thoughts into two perfectly complimentary flavour profiles.

There’s no doubt that sweet and sticky rhubarb with a little added heat from fresh ginger and the zesty citrus flavours of Seville oranges sit perfectly mixed through the rich creamy ice creams English Lakes produce. As a result of this successful collaboration we are now looking at further opportunities to work together and develop even more tantalising ice cream flavour combinations in the coming months.”

1. The competition is open to registered users of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter aged 18 or over, who are residents in the UK. The competition will run from 6:00pm (GMT) on Thursday 4th May 2023 to 11:00pm (GMT) on Thursday 11th May 2023.

If a winner cannot provide any of the above details and confirmations to Lakes Ice Cream’s satisfaction within 7 days of being contacted by Lakes Ice Cream and/or cannot confirm they accept the prize within 7 days of being notified by Lakes Ice Cream, the winner’s entry will be deemed invalid and Lakes Ice Cream reserves the right to select another winner from the remaining entries.
